5 things that mattered on stage at Groovin’ The Moo Maitland

Newcastle Live -

The locals did us proud

There was a fair crowd in early for Rachel Maria Cox who played an energetic set highlighting some of the band’s best works. We’re pretty sure the best is yet to come from this band, and that pretty exciting because we already love what we hear.

RAAVE TAPES’ set inside the Moulin Rouge tent didn’t disappoint either. We’re pretty sure Joab and the gang walked away with a few new fans after yesterday too.

You could see the excitement in the eyes of local band Split Feed when they took to the main stage as part of their Triple J Unearthed prize. A huge crowd, many singing along to the band’s catchy pop-punk tunes, made sure their set was one the band won’t forget in a very long time.

Vera Blue’s Lady Powers is an anthem

The whole set was killer but when you hear a massive crowd under one tent singing along to Blue’s empowering song Lady Powers, you know that the tune has transcended from great single to anthem and it was overwhelming to witness.

Paul Kelly played the bangers

Was he going to just play tracks from the new album or would he lead the crowd in a massive sing along? That was the question being asked just moments before Australian music royalty Paul Kelly took to the stage for his Maitland Groovin’ The Moo Set.

To the appreciation of the massive evening crowd, Paul delivered a set of some of his most loved songs. Everyone sang along, there were hugs being shared between mates and a few tears rolled down some sun-kissed faces by the end of the short but memorable GTM slot.

Ocean Alley does it better

Ocean Alley does that Aussie festival sound and swagger “you millennials” have come to love much better than any other act we’ve seen… And they do it without coming across as total arseholes (we’re gonna cop so much shit for saying it, but we don’t care).

Things are better with flames!

Blast beats for example…

There’s no doubt The Amity Affliction played a solid set to the swirling ocean of fans who made it their mission to catch one of the most anticipated sets of the day.

Their amazing stage show, completed with surging flames KISS would have been jealous of, even impressed the oldies who were huddling together inside the VIP tent.
