Music

Last week Mat McHugh released the second song titled All I Ever Wanted from his forthcoming new album, ‘Waves’.  We thought it was a good opportunity to share 5 things about Matt that get us excited for his show at Lizotte’s in Lambton on Thursday 22nd of October.

The Beautiful Girls

Matt has released 9 studio albums: 6 under his alternate moniker ‘the Beautiful Girls’ – Morning Sun, Learn Yourself, We’re Already Gone, Ziggurats, Spooks and Dancehall Days.

He’s big in Brazil

Matt has toured Brazil 5 times in the last 4 years with all the shows selling out including appearances with O Rappa, Natiruts, Playing for Change and Katchafire. He’ll be headed there again in 2016. And those Brazilians really know their music!

He’s shared the stage with some of the best

In the last 4 years has toured together with Fat Freddys Drop, Chris Cornell, Sublime and The John Butler Trio and has shared the stage with Jack Johnson, Michael Franti, G Love, Kelly Slater, Xavier Rudd, John Butler Trio,  Mason Jennings, Angus & Julia Stone, Slightly Stoopid, OAR, State Radio, Katchafire, Natiruts and Pepper amongst others.

350 thousand albums sold Worldwide

Matt has done what some would call impossible. He has sold in excess of 350 thousand albums Worldwide, and he’s done it all independently.

The contrast between Mat McHugh live and The Beautiful Girls

The difference between Mat McHugh live and The Beautiful Girls live is that a Mat McHugh focuses more on the singer-songwriter aspect of Mat’s body of work. He plays acoustic guitar (largely absent from Beautiful Girls shows nowadays) and is more emotionally stripped bare as opposed to TBG’s larger, more party-centric reggae jams.
