Looking for some local music inspo? Sick and tired of bad breakfast radio and questioning exactly why everyone is obsessed with RnB Fridays? Here are our top 5 local artists you need to check out this month. Some you’ve heard of, some you haven’t but we promise you’ll love them all.
It’s always hard trying to pen some words about the one man about town who literally needs no introduction. Adam Miller is not just a local guitarist and musician about town, he is the local musician about town.
No familiar with his amazing talent on stage? Lucky for you, he just released his latest album The Defining of Success which is sure to tide you over until you get the chance to do so. If you do happen to see posters, flyers, or even hear whispers of this guy performing locally in the next little while, jump at the chance. You will not be sorry. You can purchase his latest album from bandcamp here but you can listen right now across all digital platforms.
Grace Aberhart came to our attention late last year when she mysteriously dropped an incredible debut track through Triple J unearthed called Famous. We loved it, a lot. Now, the 18 year old singer songwriter has dropped a brand newy, Collide. Heaps of laid back vibes on this one and now that Grace is finally ready to hit the gig circuit about town, we can’t wait to hear this one live very, very soon.
Like Adam Miller, Jason is also a dedicated and extremely talented staple in the local music scene. Especially lately, it’s becoming harder and harder to walk past a local stage without hearing the sweet sounds of Jason’s slide guitar. After a long time between drinks (which included extensive touring, writing and everything in between) Jason’s new album Sorrow and Splendour has finally been finally released for all the world to hear. Jason will also be launching his album on the 7th of April at the Royal Exchange and is sure to be an event not to be missed.
Here at Newcastle Live, we’ve always been big fans of Grace Turner. Heartbreakingly beautiful tracks wrapped in the sort of warmth you always hoped the experience of listening to music would give you. After a public callout for extras to feature in an incredible video clip for her latest track, there are some big things coming our way from Grace and we could not be more excited.
We’ve written a lot about Sophie in the past, being one half of one of our favourite local duos (Bravo Victor of course) but this little paragraph right here is all about Sophie. The girl’s got a voice that will literally make your heart sing and an incredible outlook on life to match. She gets a shoutout this month because a) she’ll be performing at NIMA on the 24th of April (as sort of a farewell gig of sorts because b) she’s jetting off to London to kick start her Create NSW regional young artist scholarship. What a time to be alive. If you’re yet to catch Sophie in action, make sure you head to NIMA (The Underground at the Grand Hotel) on the 24th to give her the local send off she deserves.
